DIVA 376/7, IAST 269/271, Gratitangles, FB stuff, and Shadow

November 2018 was hard. Just couldn't stay focused let alone draw tiles. Now I am catching up by finishing tiles I recently started, but had dropped by the wayside, and do the challenges I never even looked at, but now feel the urge to participate. I feel like running up a downward moving stairway. So here we go...

This month's #fullmoonmosaic at Instagram asked for a tile with two circles of different size and off center with tangle pattern Madama on the inside and A-dalfa on the outside. Click here to see what others have done. The good thing in this challenge: only one tile a month and you have a whole month to join your tile before the new challenge is up and running. Love it.

Tangle Patterns:

This week's (or was it last week's?) facebook group Anything Goes runs under the theme 'Supersize' (I would have called it XXXL, but...), and I loved it immediately. I like monotangle tiles and this one asks that we draw the tangle itself ... XXXL. I tore one of my bookmark leftover paper strips into 3 5.7 cm square tiles and started drawing....

DIVA challenge #376, the 'It could be a Mosaic'. I used one of my Refresher tiles as inspiration for this challenge, Tanglepatterns.com Refresher #78 (see after the mosaic tiles). I took 4 small tiles (5.7cm square), but still it took me a very long time to finished them.

DIVA challenge #377 with Fengle vs Pokeroot. I am on my FB Anything Goes "Supersize" trip, the best way to catch up with challenges I missed as of late.

Square One Nov 23-29 with Qua-Sahnt. Not sure I got this tangle right though. I made 2 tiles to practice. Green: Q-S with Kinggo; Brown: Q-S with a vase.

IAST challenge #271 with XLNT (meaning 'Excellent' I assume?). Now this I call a line work 'test, fun, and exercise' and I grabbed it with both hands. The packaging paper is a bit on the uneven side, but on its surface interrupted lines can easily be continued without leaving that tale-tell blotch. For  me this tile was not so much about the end result, more about its therapeutic value.

I am still practicing Dew Drops. Maybe I should draw at least one D.D. on every tile until the end of the year to become the super master in Dew Drops drawing?

IAST challenge #269 with Soluna, starting the tangle from opposite corners and different sizes. I am not much of a Soluna fan, but appreciate the tangle. However, I admit I googled for car wheels to get some different Soluna filler ideas. So here my car wheel Soluna on a mini tile:

Animal Sad Day and Mine

This is the tile I was working on when Shadow died. It was supposed to be a happy and hopeful tile, green on the outside and blue in the middle. It wasn't a challenge, no prompts, no string...just trying to give Snapa, a fairly new tangle I thought was interesting, a go. I started it in the morning working on the green parts...two days later I continued, swapping the intended blue color for black. It is now my 'Shadow' tile

Shadow died November 22nd, 2018. He was given to me when he was 4 months old and he was such a cutie. I adored him and fell in love with him on first sight! I remember him galloping towards me, fur flying in all directions. He looked like a mini Afghan (or flying carpet) with his long black fur everywhere, or when spread out on his belly on the floor like a mini furry foot mat. He loved everybody, but accepted a cat sleeping next to him only when he was old and wise. He was my team mate, my roommate that never contributed to the rent or brought me breakfast to bed, but he never took over the TV remote control. He was perfect! I thoroughly miss my darling Shadow and the good times we had.

As a Swiss I never heard of the Rainbow Bridge legend, a Native American believe, until the Internet. When pets die they cross the Rainbow Bridge to play and have fun with other animals. When our time comes they will spot us and run towards us and we will never be parted again. Then we cross the Rainbow Bridge together.... I love the idea!

Shadow in his last days. My neighbor's homeless cat often visited him, slept with him, ate with him, but she would not walk with him in the rain.

Goodbye my darling and R.I.P.!

Shadow - R.I.P. my darling
Shadow!

I don't want to end this post on a sad note, so...

DIVA 364(B), Joey's 218, eco-dyeing, a mosaic, stippling, and more

Another ✔️ on an item on my "I-Always-Wanted-To-Do-This" listing; this time for "eco-dying". I am anything but a cook so steaming for 2 hours (!) was out of the question, I had to come up with a fast and "raw" eco-dyeing technique and what jumped to mind was water colors. I am still testing, but the first results are not too bad.

Not sure I can still call it 'eco' but here is my first yellow 'eco'-dyed tile with focus on Keenees, an inspiration I got from this week's Square One.

Still under the theme "Front and Center" this week's Joey challenge, #218, features the tangle Dicso.

...and cut from the same 'eco'-dyed paper as Keenees but featuring a variation of Dicso off-center.

DIVA #364B or DIVA #364 of May 28th? I checked the site several times this week and wondered why the 364 didn't change to 365. Was the DIVA late again? Then I scrolled down just to make sure I didn't miss anything and there it was: DIVA #364: Puf!

My first DIVA tile got off to a bad start. I messed up Puf. So I messed it up even more (I mean if you mess up, mess up big) and now Puf is unrecognizable and I have a fun tile. Perfect!

Tangle Pattern used to be Puf, now it is Unrecognizable Puf

DIVA attempt #2. This tile is also made using the eco-dyeing water color technique, but this time I used it on normal drawing paper. I am still testing...

I recently noticed that I haven't seen anything from Meridiana for a while. So I visited her site and found out, she had been very busy with a recent Zentangle workshop followed by her very own first real Zentangle teaching job. Congrats, M!

The workshop was basic stuff, but in her 3rd post I noticed a mosaic that interested me. I had to do it! Now! No adding another item to my infamous "I-Always-Wanted-To-Do-This" list. Thanks, Meridiana, for a great inspiration!

So here a quick tile with a great mosaic effect...

I am now the proud owner of my own Mosaic tiles!!!!

Update: WOW! Thanks, Meridiana, I am greatly honored!
You dedicate a
whole post to me and my tile/mosaic. I am speechless!

♻️ This is another item from my "I-always-wanted-to-do-this" tile series. I don't refer to the tangle Rundl or Molygon (inspired by last week's DIVA "Remake"), but printed paper. This tile is cut out from the local Fascino drugstore glossy magazine...and it will be the only tile cut out from a glossy magazine (color pencil on glossy paper...nope!). Newspaper paper up next.

And the new tangle of the week is....Hearts & Diamonds by Helen Williams from a little lime. I made mine on a wonky grid and that forced me to put a spin on it. I couldn't do the lines as per pattern, only aura'd half of the hearts and filled the diamonds with duo color stippling.

♻️ A fun tile drawn on tracing paper glued on bed sheet packaging paper (= half recycle?). When I drew Bracco-Line, a gorgeous tangle, I realized how gracefully it flows into Ilac. Meanwhile I am still practicing my ribbons....

9er Mosaic FMT 178 Challenge - African Artist

Joey is back! Yes, the 6 weeks holiday past really fast and with her reappearance she also brought some new things for all of us.
A) A new website. Joey managed to cleverly rebuild it the same way as the old one still looks, so no 'getting used to' and 'wasting time finding' period, but instant familiarity. Well done, Joey!  ...and I like the new banner image, too!

B) A new challenge, #178, using tangle African Artist and with a twist to it, too. I call it the 9er Mosaic FMT challenge and here is why:
Small A) 9er = the challenge will last over a period of 9 weeks (9er!) and includes 9 tiles (9er! got it?) which we arrange in a 3x3 square and draw a continuous string over all.

Small B) Mosaic = well, in the end this then looks like a mosaic...or should look like a mosaic. This still remains to be seen in my case.

Small C) FMT = Finish My Tile (remember? All her challenges run under this general theme name).
So here is what I am going to do: no border; smaller (7x7cm) grey tiles, unfortunately very rough tiles, but somebody has to make use of the paper; and in the end glue them all together on a bigger piece of paper to get the border. My string in blue represents the Danube river that weaves and will weave its way through my tiles and Germany. I was inspired by my neighbor's recent visit to Germany where he made a several day bicycle tour and bonding trip with his son along the upper part of the Danube to enjoy nature in all its beauty. (see images below).

So, without further ado here tile number one of my Danube Bicycle Trip for the 9er Mosaic FMT #178 Challenge...
