Refreshers 198, 200; IAST 292, 293, 294; Square One; 100DayProject, All Stars and Ellipse and more...

We finally reached Refresher #200 with its tangles Waybop, Cirli, Companion, Chaist, and Cross-ur-Heart. I have the whole collection and at this milestone I have to decide whether I want to continue drawing each newly published prompts. The series might also end; Refresher 200 was 3 weeks overdue. An ominous sign? Time will tell. (I wrote this many weeks ago. Meanwhile 201 has been published and I decided to continue drawing each and every Refresher.)

Another IAST challenge, #292 where I took it very 'liberal' (not in the political sense I may add) with the given tangles Fife, Fuenf and Furr Balls - of which I don't even have one full ball.

IAST challenge #292 with Fife, Fuenf, Furr Balls
Tangle Patterns: Fife, Fuenf, Furr Balls

And then there is my very dirty IAST tile for challenge #293 with tangles Partay, Pixioze, Croon. Again and again I put it in front of me, trying hard to make it look better, cleaner, but not even the bright yellow dots and lines could save it. I guess we all have one of those misfits in our repertoire.

Tangle Patterns: Partay, Pixioze, Croon

I think I got it this time. IAST #294 with new tangle Happy does actually look like "Happy". The tile just got a bit too pinkish, but I can't blame "Happy" for that.

Inspired by...Zenith. Zenith was a 100DayProject prompt for May 19. Somehow I got inspired to do a bit more with it and on normal 9x9 cm tile.

Another Inspired by... tile - Z-Trik, a given prompt for June 14. When I had finished that tile, I felt like going on drawing lines. Hence this simple mini monotangle tile was born.

My 100DayProject titled...

*** 1Day1Tangle1Tile 2019 ***

...and on goes my monotangle theme under the 100DayProject for 2019. However, there is good and bad news. The bad news: We are still 40 days off the finish line. The good news: We are past the half way point.

Below 7 more tiles containing 4 monotangle tiles. Again, I try to find a variation for the daily tangles. While I mostly fail sometimes I succeed to 'hide' the original, e.g.: May 30's Mountain in group 15.

So here we go...

Group 11 with May 12: Pod Flower, May 13: Block'd, May 14: Blooming Butter, May 15: Floatfest. May 12 - Pod Flower, a new grid tangle by Helen Williams, was not one of the suggested prompts, but as from time to time on weekends there was none posted so I squeezed this beautiful tangle in. May 13 - I think I can safely say that this is a no-tangle tile. I used Block'd as a string and filled it with dice dots and some lines. May 14 - Blooming Butter with Fescu petals.

100DayProject with May 12: Pod Flower, May 13: Block'd, May 14: Blooming Butter, May 15: Floatfest
Tangle Patterns: Pod Flower, Block'd, Blooming Butter, Floatfest

Group 12 with May 16: X, May 17: Xplode, May 18: Onamato, May 19: Zenith.

100DayProject with May 12: Pod Flower, May 13: Block'd, May 14: Blooming Butter, May 15: Floatfest
Tangle Patterns: X, Xplode, Onamato, Zenith

Group 13 with May 20: Stwist, May 21: Shirley, May 22: Mazorito, May 23: F2F (Fringe to Fringe). May 21 - my 2 Shirley strips got a bit too close to each other and promptly got entangled. May 22 - Mazorito: angry birds of pray or masks of the damned - could be both. May 23 - F2F is probably the easiest tangle by Tomas Padros. I tried it with all kinds of shapes, but with leaves (or with his Chlorophilia tangle) it turned out to be my favorite. As an exception to my 100DayProject 2019 theme 1Day1Tile1Tangle, here I morphed F2F into Chlorophilia.

Tangle Patterns: Stwist, Shirley, Mazorito, F2F (Fringe to Fringe morphing into Chlorophilia)

Group 14 with May 24: Sling Slang, May 25: Cubine, May 26: Squid, May 27: Odir. May 25 - Cubine in an ogee grid where the ogee seeds are sliced in half resulted in 'Tribine'.

100DayProject with May 24: Sling Slang, May 25: Cubine, May 26: Squid, May 27: Odir
Tangle Patterns: Sling Slang, Cubine, Squid, Odir

Group 15 with May 28: Tut, May 29: YouDoo, May 30: Mountain, May 31: Jester. May 28 - Tut, my personal favorite of the 4, but May 30 - Mountain, is my best variation.

All Stars? Ellipse?

Last but not least in my tangle exploration is a "study" of All Stars and Ellipse. All Stars was a prompt in Square One during the week May 24-30. I think Ellipse was introduced shortly after or during that week. Honestly, I think one is just a variation of the other. With some of my tiles I didn't follow the stepout, but drew S-curves which was a lot faster for me.

This All Stars/Ellipse testing tile was my first of many. I drew this tile with mainly All Stars in mind and in a wonky grid and filled it with Ruutz. The fine lines is the wonky grid and if you look closely all eyes are on a cross section.

Tangle Pattern: All Stars, Ruutz

This was my first "Inspired by..." Ellipse-on-my-mind tile - also in a wonky grid. But honestly, if you see All Stars in it that'll be OK with me, too.

Tangle Pattern: Ellipse

All Stars or Ellipse? I have no idea. I just drew S-curves horizontally and vertically on this and the next tile.

Then I tried it with leaves...No, don't try that!

...and finally an All Stars and Ellipse tile hand in hand. Here I also proof that I know what Ellipse should really look like.

Animal Happy Days

Remember this photo from my previous blog post? Well, I have good news regarding this cat family. Getting hold of the mum was easy and meanwhile she has given birth to 6 (SIX!!!) new kittens. My neighbor and I are glad we acted when we did and found a foster before the kittens were born. As it turns out, she has not enough milk to feed all 6. Now they have a fighting chance. In fact, 4 already have a home. In time the mum will be spayed and hopefully ends up in a loving home, too.

As for her 2 kittens (boy named Seng Cann, girl named Pian Peirn and no, I have no idea what the names mean). It took a while until we found them, caught them, and placed them in a room where we could 'tame' them. We soon had an interested owner and she helped with the feeding and playing. Now they have their vaccinations, are spayed and neutered and live happily with the new owner.

The nursery. 5 kittens in the basket and one outside.

New cat project.

Stray Tabby

He is a male Tabby and the first attempt to bring him to the vet failed when he broke one of the basket cover hinges and escaped. He, too, is not tamed, but since I am feeding him daily, I can handle him - carefully - although he hisses at me every so often (especially when I am not quick enough with the food). I consider this a case of mind over matter and I am the one with the mind.

Watch out, Tabby!!!

If you still don't have enough of cats, here a funny story about a water-loving, pain in the bathroom, cat. One of the drawings made me LOL.

From my garden....

Black Bat Flower

Now it is back to my 100DayProject - 1Day1Tile1Tangle. There is a lot of catching up to do and honestly, I am glad we are heading towards the end of the 100 days. My windows need cleaning, the footpath water pressured...the list is long.

Thanks for visiting my blog and enjoy a wonderful week.

Now here 2 Zenuari 2019 tiles that are similar as I used only one main tangle: Bocksbeutel by Margarete Gilge.

Both tiles are in honor of her. With the first tile, Zenuari 2019 day 14 with Idol Tangles, I knew there is no way I am able to draw the way she does. I would be more successful trying to fly using my arms. So I didn't even try. However, when she recently published her 9 tiles she intended for a birthday gift, I decided I will honor her by a) filling my tile with tangles she used in her gift and b) apply the same corner lines she used in an earlier Ela challenge tile that impressed me. The lines are so simple but have a great visual impact.

Zenuari 2019 day 14 - Idol Tangles:. Margarete Gilge. Bocksbeutel with lots of tangles for texture
Tangle Pattern: Bocksbeutel

BTW, Margarete drew quite a few tiles in my style. My initial reaction when I saw them was: HUH?? When did I draw these??? Quickly followed by the amazement that Margarete has drawn these tiles in my style better than I ever could. Yes, I am honored and humbled at the same time. There she is, a very accomplished professional artist taking the time to draw in my style and showing tile results beating mine in artistry any day of the week! Margarete, thank you so much.

This tile is for Zenuari 2019, day 13 - B.Y.O.B, Bring Your Own Booze, again with Margerete Gilge's tangle Bocksbeutel tangle. Hey, the theme was asking for Bocksbeutel.

Work by Eric Gjerde
Work by Eric Gjerde

My recent visit to flickr resulted in my discovery of Eric Gjerde's pages. As he writes, he got burnt out doing what he was doing (computer stuff) and needed something new and different to keep is creativity flowing...and thus he got into "...origami, and especially into very technical folding (often referred to as origami sekkei, or "technical paper folding".)...". I can't remember how much time I spent clicking and scrolling through his pages, but I do remember I couldn't stop going "Ohh!" and "WOW!" and "This is interesting...and that...". You can see his work here.

So I deconstructed the above pattern and named it in honor of my ex-foster cat Yang, the very same that showed his love for me by scratching and biting me. Yeap, didn't like the eye drop treatment or his blue transport basket. But more about Yang below...

Animal Happy Day

This is when I usually come to my animal videos...

However, today I would like to start with an intruder into my storeroom. Upfront: I am not afraid of snakes, but I do respect them. I am not silly. After all my years in Thailand I am used to having the occasional visitor, usually very thin and very small and more frightened out of its mind then I.  For these cases I have 2 square aquarium fishing nets to catch them in and carry them safely to the forestry area around the corner and that is that. But on this evening, when I was about to close and lock the storeroom door, out of the corner of my eye I saw something bulgy, foreign on top of the door. Yeap, it was a snake. A snake of the sort I felt was maybe a bit too big and strong for my nets.

So I called the police.

They came fairly quick, took a photo of the snake and sent it off to a professional snake catcher. That guy, on the phone, told us it was a small Boa and he will be on his way to catch it after he had caught another snake at another place. Wow! Another snake? Yes, busy time for snakes visiting people as I was told. Anyway, the catcher came and it was all over in a flash. He simply grabbed it at the head (jeez! the guy was hardly tall enough to reach the top of the door!!), and let it curl around his left arm after the police guys and I were able to take an image (see its tail?).

Catcher with Baby Boa

I was assured, first by the two police guys and later by the catcher, that they do not kill snakes. Let's hope so!

Now to my other house guests...cats...

...May I introduce you to Yin (behind Yang), Yang (in front of Yin), and Gem (right - and Gem's 2 kitties further below).

Yang, Yin, Gem

Over the past 2 months or so I was caught up helping my neighbor, Bon, taking care of 5 cats that became homeless due to the sudden death of their owner and our neighbor.

Yin & Yang. I gave them these names because a) they are both black & white and b) they are female and male, but they are not related! Yang joined the cat family when he was a tiny, sickly, kitten. He needed a lactating mother -> Yin and Gem's mum.

Yang: golden eyed, ringed tailed, beauty spot on his right, very shy, and loves food.

Yang

Yin: light blue eyes, independent, on the prowl during the day and probably disco dancing most nights. Beauty spot on her left.

Yin

Yin's sister Gem. I named her Gem because that is what she is, a gem. Beautiful in character and beautiful with her golden, Citrine eyes, and the smallest of the 3. She didn't mind sharing my chair I sat on with me or my bed I slept in with me. Of all the 3 she is the biggest schmoozer. Oh, their new owner? A jeweler's family.

Gem

Gem's babies. They were the first to go. They are now residing in Bangkok and, as is obvious, are being spoiled crazy. Their wearing little coats during the hot season indicates to me that they enjoy aircon housing. Be a cat in Bangkok is maybe not so bad after all.

Gem's offspring

Bon did a marvelous job. She not only found them all wonderful homes, but she also made sure they got all the necessary vaccinations and were all rendered useless for further cat population before they left us.

"It was a pleasure caring for you, guys. May you live happily forever!"

And this brings me to my post closing video...of course, about a cat.

I had to post this video. This happened in the country of my "joice" (= short for "joyous choice"). Thailand has a big heart for animals.

Thank you for stopping by, enjoy Spring and keep tangling!

My new Tangle Mock I.Am, DIVA 384, IAST 280; Square One; Refresher 194, 195, and a Valentine tile

My new Tangle

Mock I.AM

Tangle Pattern: Mock I.Am in a wonky grid
Tangle Pattern: Mock I.Am in a wonky grid

My "I.Am" tangle series is growing; "Mock" has joined the family. I introduced Mock I.Am on my blog the first time with my Zenuari 2019 tile for day 9 "New to me Tangles" (left). I guess I took the theme of the day a bit too literal (something I seem to do only too often) and sat down to actually produce a new tangle. I am a bit slow at drawing step outs and even slower at drawing sample tiles as I prefer to work on challenges, but I was finally able to kill that inner lazy me and officially introduce "Mock I.Am" to the world (LOL, how I love to dramatize things).

The first tile (under the title) is Mock I.Am in a wonky grid. The tile below shows Mock I.Am in ribbons with a Mock I.Am bug up in the corner.

Tangle Pattern: Mock I.Am ribbons and Mock I.Am bug
Tangle Pattern: Mock I.Am ribbons and Mock I.Am bug

I love to place tangles into leaves or petals, so Mock I.Am had to undergo the same treatment. The other tangles are Sunflower, Sinko, and Columbine.

Tangle Patterns: Mock I.Am as leaves with Sunflower, Sinko, Columbine
Tangle Patterns: Mock I.Am as leaves with Sunflower, Sinko, Columbine

Here are two tiles that look the same. I so desperately wanted to make a star or Zendala tile. I came up with three tiles in total. One, the first, went straight onto my pile of rejects (thanks to Anita Aspfors Westin inspirational blog "Oops" it will (hopefully, eventually, maybe) be remodeled on a later date), the second and third outputs still didn't hit the nail on the head so I decided to stop wasting time on this rather stupid idea (but they count as samples!!!) and just post them. On the green tile the D's are big as per pattern and in the other the D's are small and look like bow ties.

Mock I.Am Zendala or Star with the big D's
Tangle Pattern: Mock I.Am with big or normal D's

Mock I.Am Zendala or Star with the small D's
Tangle Pattern: Mock I.Am with small D's

....and of course, I had to do a bookmark with Mock I.Am. Here the D's turned into leaves.

Mock I.Am as a bookmark
Tangle Pattern: Mock I.Am

The basic Mock I.Am exists of lines, diamond shapes, D's and D's mirrored, V's, and commas. That's it. So here the step out:

Refresher #194 with tangles Snail, Flec, Iriemon, Satsu, Faux Weave. After finishing tile 1 I had to change the Faux Weave and Iriemon trail. I had to take these tangles out of their grid. Okay, maybe Iriemon in the newer tile in the leaves looks more like Betweed, but I used the suggested 3rd variation version by changing step 2 to / \.

ValenTangle 2019 had Love Fragment sort of as the feature tangle for the 2 weeks leading up to Valentine's Day Feb 14th. Not a particular 'hearts' tangler I decided to do ONE tile and one only with this fragment and for the occasion.
